National Plan for Vacation Day, a time to remember to start planning that big trip you've always dreamed of and take some mental health days.

History:

In the 14th century, Geoffrey Chaucer first referred to vacation in his poem "Canterbury Tales." He used the term to mean a period of spare time. Until the 19th century, Americans and the English used "vacation" in similar ways, to indicate an absence from a place or an opportunity for leisure. It was not until the mid-1800s that this word came to describe traveling anywhere in order to take a break from one's usual activities. One important turning point in American travel occurred when a Boston preacher named William H.H. Murray published his guidebook about the Adirondack Mountains in 1869. The book inspired treks and excursions among city dwellers who sought respite in the natural world.
