National Pet Bird Day

History: 

National Pet Bird Day was founded by the Bird Enjoyment & Advantage Koalition (BEAK), a coalition of bird owners and hobbyists dedicated to encouraging general awareness of birds and the joys of their company. This year, National Pet Bird Day will be celebrated on September 17. Of these bird owners, the most cited benefit associated with owning a bird is that pet birds are fun to watch, followed by the benefit of birds bringing love and companionship to their owners. On National Pet Bird Day, BEAK hopes you will join them in celebrating all the joys and benefits associated with companion bird ownership.

How to Celebrate/ To do list Ideas:

• Buy or build your bird a new toy
• Make it a play date.
• Let him free fly around the house.
• Spoil your pet bird just a little.
• Create a scrapbook of pictures and memories for your bird.
• Take a painting class with your pet bird (they'll love it!).
• Get dressed up! If your bird has a favorite color, dress in it! It can be anything from a scarf to an entire outfit—whatever makes them smile.
• Take some silly pictures of your pet (or with your pet) and share them with friends and family.
• Join a bird club or Facebook group dedicated to pet birds. 
• Help someone in need buy pet food or other essentials for their pet bird.
